Fresh off a North American DJ tour, English electronic duo Maribou State are sharing a brand new track from their forthcoming album, Portraits. The track, titled “The Clown” features a vocal collaboration from longtime friend Pedestrian. As many of Maribou State’s songs are focused purely on instrumentals, the added vocal elements can result in a more pure form of catchy electronic pop, and “The Clown” delivers on that exact level.
Pedestrian (aka Jack Sibley) delivers perfectly paired vocals for the piano-driven track about a frail relationship on its last leg. The result is an incredibly catchy song, as melancholy as its overtones might be.
Maribou State’s upcoming album, Portraits, is due out June 2 on Counter Records, and judging by the first three tracks the duo has shared, it’s bound to be good. Pre-order the album here. Stay tuned for the announcement of more North American tour dates soon.
