Kendrick Lamar has dropped a brand new song, “The Blacker The Berry” off his upcoming album. Check out the song above, via YouTube.
The track is produced primarily by Boi-1da, with additional production coming from West Coast hip-hop veteran producer Terrace Martin. The song features Kendrick returning to his more aggressive side, a separation from his uplifting lyrics and vocals on recently Grammy Award-winning “i” from 2014. The message is still there, with Kendrick basically shouting, “You hate me don’t you? / You hate my people, your plan is to terminate our culture”
As far as we know, “The Blacker The Berry” will be on Kendrick’s upcoming album, which is yet to have an official release date, despite multiple rumors. The anticipation is so great behind this album, it wouldn’t be alarming if Lamar springs a surprise digital release on us, with little warning.
